Toying Around Reviews - Marvel Legends Retro 3.75 inch: Black Costume Spider-Man
Marvel Legends Retro 3.75 inch
Black Costume Spider-Man
Today we will be taking a look at the Black Costume Spider-Man from the new 3.75 inch Marvel Legends line. This new line is more of a throwback/what-if line to see what could have been if Kenner had the Marvel line back in the 80s/90s.
The Marvel Legends Series is a lower-tier toy line that both collectors and non-collectors alike would be interested in. This is an action figure line based on the characters of Marvel Comics, initially produced by Toy Biz, then by Hasbro. This line is in the 6-inch (150 mm) scale, with spin-off lines in the 4-inch (100 mm), 8-inch (200 mm), and 12-inch (300 mm) scale. these figures tend to look good inside and outside the box.
PACKAGING:
Before we open this up, let's take a look at the packaging.
All the figures in this new 3.75-inch line come in on a blister card. Spider-Man’s card has the Marvel Legends logo at the top left, while The Amazing Spider-Man logo is just below that on the left side of the card. a very 80’s style artwork of Spider-Man takes up the rest of the card back on the right side. Spider-Man himself can be seen in the blister bubble.
Turning the card to the side we can get a good look at Spider-Man.
On the back of the card, we get the same Spider-Man artwork that you can cut out for a collector card, along with a small bio. When Spider-Man bonds with an alien entity, the symbiote supercharges his heroic identity!
On the other side of the card, we again see Spider-Man from the side. These side views are helpful for any collector that wishes to keep his figure mint on the card.
OUTSIDE OF THE BOX:
Let's open the box and take a closer look at the figure.
Taking Spider-Man off the card we can see that the figure is well made. Spider-Man is just a black plastic figure with some white paint on him, not too hard to mess up. A little side note, you know that this is the Symbiote and not just the black costume due to the little black dot on the white square on the hands. The black dot is only on the Symbiote. The black dot is where the webbing comes out from, not his web-shooters like with other costumes.

This gives the arm 360-degree rotation.
SWIVEL BALL HINGE WRISTS
This allows you to turn his wrists a full 360-degree around.
MUSHROOM PEGGED LEGS
This allows the legs to move back and forth
SIZE COMPARISON:
How does the size of this figure compare to others?
Spider-Man stands right at 3.75 inches tall
Here is our new Spider-Man standing next to the Marvel Legends 6 inch Balck costume Spider-Man and the MCU Parker Suit Spider-Man
RATING:
What are Baby Huey's scores for the figure?
PAINT JOB 5/5
The only paint is the white on the figure, kinda hard to mess up
FIGURE SCULPT 5/5
The sculpt of the figure isn’t too bad, since it is more or less the same sculpt used over and over again in this line.
POSING 2/5
Now I do understand that this figure is made to look like he was made in the 80s/90s when we didn’t have much articulation, however, you did add in the twists for the gloves so I don’t see why you didn’t also do that with the boots.
ACCESSORIES: 0/5
none!
DURABILITY 2/5
The plastic on the legs is very gummy like and I do feel like over time this will hurt the figure from standing.
OVERALL SCORE 2.8/5
The figures are a nice throwback but these might be better to keep mint on the card.
So another year has come and gone, this year like the year before wasn’t the greatest but at least we did get some really cool toys and action figures. I just want to thank you all for all the love and support you all give me, this would not be possible if not for all of you so thank you!
