Toying Around Reviews - DC Retro '66 Batman

DC Retro '66 Batman

Today we will be taking a look at Batman from the new DC retro line from McFarlane toys. This Batman is based on the Adam West Batman from the 1960’s show.

Kapow! The debonair millionaire Bruce Wayne may seem like your average cool cat, but you would be wrong! With the flip of a Shakespeare head bust and… to the Batcave! Gotham City is filled with a rogue’s gallery of criminals eager to unmask the Batman, but they are thwarted by the Caped Crusader’s own clever ways.

McFarlane Toys, a subsidiary of Todd McFarlane Productions, is a company founded by comics creator Todd McFarlane which makes highly detailed model figurines of characters from movies, comics, popular music, video games, and various sporting genres.

PACKAGING:

Before we open this up, let's take a look at the packaging.

For this new line, each figure will come on a blister card bubble.

The front of the card features the bright colors from the old ‘66 show. The classic Batman tv show logo is at the top of the card. Batman and his accessories are displayed in the middle.

Turning the card to the side we can get a good view of the side of the figure. This has always been good for fellow collectors that would like to keep the figure mint on card.

The back of the card has the logo once again with a side profile picture of Batman and a picture of Batman and Robin sitting in the BATMOBILE in the BATCAVE, both also are available.

Turning the card around one more time we can get another good look of Batman from the side.

OUTSIDE OF THE BOX:

Let's open the box and take a closer look at the figure.

Taking Batman off the card we can get a good look at the figure. McFarlane toys did a really good job at capturing the look of Batman and Adam West from the show.

ACCESSORIES:

Let's see what kind of accessories the figure comes with.

BATMAN COMES WITH:

two word bubbles

ARTICULATION:

How can we pose the figure? Let's find out!

BATMAN’S ARTICULATION INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING:

BALL JOINTED NECK

allows you to turn the head 360-degrees.

BALL HINGED SHOULDERS

Gives the arm 360-degree rotation and also the ability to raise and lower the arm.

SINGLE JOINTED ELBOWS

This allows you to bend the arm about 90-degrees.

GLOVE SWIVEL

This allows you to turn the glove around a full 360-degrees

SWIVEL BALL WRISTS

It allows you to turn his wrists in a full 360-degree circle.

WAIST SWIVEL

This lets you be able to turn the figure around 360 degrees at the waist.

MUSHROOM PEGGED LEGS

This allows the legs to move back and forth

SINGLE-JOINTED KNEES

The joint allows you to bend the leg about 90-degrees.

SIZE COMPARISON:

How does the size of this figure compare to others?

Batman stands right around the 6-inch mark

Here is Batman standing next to the Mattel Super Friends Batman and also the McFarlane Toys Detective Comics #1000 Variant Batman.

RATING:

What are Baby Huey's scores for the figure?

PAINT JOB 5/5

The paint on the figure is very well done, also not hard when the figure doesn’t need many colors.

FIGURE SCULPT 4/5

The sculpt of the figure is well done. Just not sure why they went 6-inch here when McFarlane has been doing 7-inch with all the DC figures.

POSING 3.5/5

The legs being mushroom pegs doesn’t make sense to me, you put more articulation in the top half of the figure but skimp out on the bottom?

ACCESSORIES: 2/5

Batman used a ton of different accessories and gadgets in the show and all we get are some word punching effects?

DURABILITY 4/5

The plastic is pretty good. the knee joints are a little soft but I still feel it will hold up since the leg doesn’t have much articulation.

OVERALL SCORE 3.7/5

The line will be fun overall, just some of the choices Todd has made have me scratching my head a little.

RETAIL COST: $17.99

I picked mine up at my local TARGET.
