Toying Around Reviews - Marvel Legends: Superior Octopus
MARVEL LEGENDS SUPERIOR OCTOPUS
Today we will be taking a look at Superior Octopus from the DemoGoblin Build-A-Figure wave.
After transferring his mind into the body of New U Technologies' Proto-Clone to avoid dying from cellular degeneration, Otto Octavius returned to one of his old bases only to discover Agents of Hydra had appropriated it. Otto easily defeated the intruders, prompting Arnim Zola to offer him a place among the ranks of Hydra, which Otto just accepted because Zola proposed to help him take Parker Industries down. Having access to Hydra's resources, Otto built a new set of tentacles and a new suit patterned after his Superior Spider-Man's costume, rebranding himself as the Superior Octopus.
The Marvel Legends Series is a Lower tier toy line that both collectors and non-collectors alike would be interested in. With multiple scales ranging from 4 inches to 12 inches and a good mix of detail and articulation, these figures tend to look good both inside and outside of the box.
PACKAGING:
Before we open this up, let's take a look at the packaging.
Spider-Man comes packed in the stranded Marvel Legends Series box. The Marvel 80th anniversary logo is on top of the box followed by the Legends Series logo right below it. Spider-Man is displayed in the middle through the large window that showcases the figure as well as the accessories. This gives great visibility for collectors that may not be opening it. On the bottom of the box, you have the Spider-Man logo as this is apart of the Spider-Man line.
On the left side of the box, we get some artwork of Spider-Man in his Big Time suit.
On the back of the box, we have a picture of Spider-Man as well as a small bio.
Flipping the box to the right side now, you see we get the same artwork again.
OUTSIDE OF THE BOX:
Let's open the box and take a closer look at the figure.
Taking Superior Octopus out of the box we get a nice look at the body and sculpt they used, He is using the Pizza Eating Spider-Man body that came out a few years ago. This body is perfect for any spider related type figures. I am happy they are using it here.

ARTICULATION:
How can we pose the figure? Let's find out!
SUPERIOR OCTOPUS’ ARTICULATION INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING:
HINGED BALL JOINTED NECK:
allows you to swivel the head 360-degrees and tilt the head back and forth.
BUTTERFLY HING:
This allows you to move the shoulder area front and back to get a better range of motion.
BALL HINGED SHOULDERS:
Gives the arm 360-degree rotation and also the ability to raise and lower the arm.
DOUBLE JOINTED ELBOWS:
This allows you to bend the arm back to have the hands near the shoulders.
SWIVEL HINGE WRISTS:
It allows you to turn his wrists in a full 360-degree circle while also bending them up and down.
DIAPHRAGM SWIVEL
This lets you be able to turn the figure around 360 degrees at the diaphragm.
WAIST SWIVEL:
This lets you be able to turn the figure around 360 degrees at the waist.
BALL JOINTED LEGS:
With this it allows the legs to move out to the side along with some front and back motion.
UPPER THIGH SWIVEL:
The leg can rotate around a full 360 degrees.
DOUBLE JOINTED KNEES:
The joint allows you to bend the leg itself back to the butt of the figure.
BOOT CUT:
Lets you swivel the boot around 360 degrees.
HINGED ANKLES WITH ROCKERS:
The ankle hinge allows you to bend the foot front and back. The rockers allow you to rock the ankles towards the outside and inside of the legs of the figure.

How does the size of this figure compare to others?
Superior Octopus stands right around 6.5 inches tall.

The paint on the figure is very nice and well done aside from the few paint scuff marks here and there

The Pizza Spider body is the best figure Hasbro has ever made for any spider related characters, I hope they keep using it.

Just about pose you want to get him in you can, no complaints from me on this one

Ok, they could have added a few more things into the box here, like an unmasked head, some extra hands, and would it have hurt to have made the tentacles with bendy wire inside?

The figure overall is solid.

I am very happy that we got this figure. Now I think Hasbro needs to re-make the Superior Spider-Man using this body since it came out just after the first time we got him.
