Toying Around Reviews - DC Retro '66 Riddler

DC Retro '66 Batman

Today we will be taking a look at The Riddler from the new DC retro line by McFarlane toys. This Riddler is based on how Frank Gorshin looked as Riddler in the 1960’s show.

A mastermind, the Riddler would always send Gotham’s Law Enforcement or the Batman a riddle before embarking on a crime spree. It would take the World’s Greatest Detective to unravel his dastardly clues.

McFarlane Toys, a subsidiary of Todd McFarlane Productions, is a company founded by comics creator Todd McFarlane which makes highly detailed model figurines of characters from movies, comics, popular music, video games, and various sporting genres.

PACKAGING:

Before we open this up, let's take a look at the packaging.

For this new line, each figure will come on a blister card bubble.

The front of the card features the bright colors from the old ‘66 show. The classic Batman tv show logo is at the top of the card. Riddler and his accessories are displayed in the middle.

Turning the card to the side we can get a good view of the side of the figure. This has always been good for fellow collectors that would like to keep the figure mint on the card.

The back of the card has the logo once again with a side profile picture of Riddler and a picture of Batman and Robin sitting in the BATMOBILE in the BATCAVE, both also are available.

Turning the card around one more time we can get another good look at Riddler from the side.

OUTSIDE OF THE BOX:

Let's open the box and take a closer look at the figure.

Taking Riddler off the card we can get a good look at the figure. McFarlane toys did a really good job at capturing the look of Batman and Adam West from the show.

ACCESSORIES:

Let's see what kind of accessories the figure comes with.

RIDDLER COMES WITH:

two different word bubbles

ARTICULATION:

How can we pose the figure? Let's find out!

BATMAN’S ARTICULATION INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING:

BALL JOINTED NECK:

allows you to turn the head 360 degrees.

BALL HINGED SHOULDERS:

It gives the arm 360-degree rotation and also the ability to raise and lower the arm.

SINGLE JOINTED SWIVEL ELBOWS:

This allows you to bend the arm about 90 degrees and turn it 360 degrees.

GLOVE SWIVEL:

This allows you to turn the glove around a full 360 degrees

WAIST SWIVEL:

This lets you turn the figure around 360 degrees at the waist.

MUSHROOM PEGGED LEGS:

This allows the legs to move back and forth

SINGLE-JOINTED KNEES:

The joint allows you to bend the leg about 90 degrees.

SIZE COMPARISON:

How does the size of this figure compare to others?

Riddler stands right around the 6-inch mark

Here is Riddler standing next to the retro ‘66 Batman as well as the Three Jokers Batman.

RATING:

What are Baby Huey's scores for the figure?

PAINT JOB 5/5

The paint on the figure is very well done, kinda hard to mess up black and purple paint.

FIGURE SCULPT 4/5

The sculpting of the figure is well done. Just not sure why they went 6-inch here when McFarlane has been doing 7-inch with all the DC figures.

POSING 3.5/5

The legs being mushroom pegs doesn’t make sense to me, you put more articulation in the top half of the figure but skimp out on the bottom?

ACCESSORIES: 2/5

The world bubbles, while nice, still feel like an afterthought throw-in.

DURABILITY 4/5

The plastic is pretty good. The knee joints are a little soft but should hold up over time since the leg doesn’t have much articulation.

OVERALL SCORE 3.7/5

like I said before. this line will be fun, I just scratch my head on some of the choices Todd has made with this line as a whole.

RETAIL COST: $17.99

I picked mine up at my local TARGET.
