Toying Around Reviews - McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse: Action Comics #1000 Superman

DC Multiverse: Action Comics #1000 Superman

Happy New Year and welcome back to Toying Around. Today we will be taking a look at the New DC Comics Multiverse Action Comics #1000 Superman. This year the Multiverse line of figures is made by McFarlane Toys and not Mattel.

Superman is the 1st figure I was able to pick up in this new line. So let’s hop on in and take a look.

PACKAGING:

Before we open this up, let's take a look at the packaging.

This new DC Comics Multiverse line of figures comes in what will be the standard box for the McFarlane made figures.

On the front of the box, we have a nice big window that lets us see the figure and everything he comes with. The top of the box lets us know that the figure has 22 points of articulation. The bottom of the box has the DC Multiverse logo as well as Superman’s name.

Turning the box to the side we have the name of the figure, and where the inspiration for the figure came from.

The back of the box is a little different then most, we do not get a picture of the figure, but rather the artwork from where the inspiration came from. The same goes for the rest of the figures in the wave, we get the artwork, no figure pictures.

Turning the box around one more time we get a small window that lets us see the figure.

OUTSIDE OF THE BOX:

Let's open the box and take a closer look at the figure.

Taking Superman out of the box we get to see the bright reds and blues that McFarlane used on Superman. The blue has a little more of a matte finish to it, rather than the gloss that a lot of other toy companies put on them.

ACCESSORIES:

Let's see what kind of accessories the figure comes with.

SUPERMAN COMES WITH:

closed grip left hand

fisted right hand

open left and right hands

collectors card

flight stand

ARTICULATION:

How can we pose the figure? Let's find out!

SUPERMAN’S ARTICULATION INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING:

BALL JOINTED NECK:

allows you to turn the head 360-degrees.

BUTTERFLY HING:

This allows you to move the shoulder area front and back to get a better range of motion.

BALL HINGED SHOULDERS:

Gives the arm 360-degree rotation and also the ability to raise and lower the arm.

UPPER BICEP SWIVEL:

This cut lets you turn the whole arm below the cut 360-degrees.

SINGLE JOINTED ELBOWS:

This allows you to bend the arm about 90-degrees.

SWIVEL BALL HINGE WRISTS:

It allows you to turn his wrists in a full 360-degree circle while also bending them up and down.

DIAPHRAGM SWIVEL:

This lets you be able to turn the figure around 360 degrees at the diaphragm.

WAIST SWIVEL:

This lets you be able to turn the figure around 360 degrees at the waist.

BALL JOINTED LEGS:

With this it allows the legs to move out to the side along with some front and back motion.

DOUBLE JOINTED KNEES:

The joint allows you to bend the leg itself back to the butt of the figure.

BALL JOINTED ANKLES:

The ankle hinge allows you to bend the foot front and back and also to the left and right.

SIZE COMPARISON:

How does the size of this figure compare to others?

Superman stands right at 7 inches.

Here is our new Superman standing with last year’s Rebirth Superman from Mattel.

RATING:

What are Baby Huey's scores for the figure?

PAINT JOB 4/5

The paint on the figure is very well done. It is bright and nothing on the figure seems out of place or missing any paint. Some flesh paint on the wrist ball joints would go a long way.

FIGURE SCULPT 3/5

The overall sculpt is where I and a lot of fans have some issues. The proportions just seem off. His chest is a little too big and the ball joints on the wrists and ankles just make him look a little silly.

POSING 2/5

Getting Superman to stand with the ball joints in his legs was very hard, he kept wanting to fall over, also this is Superman, how do you not give a flying hero a hinge in the neck so he can look up. This makes it next to impossible to give him into a flying pose.

ACCESSORIES: 2/5

Fight stand is cool but you can’t have him in a Superman flight, only flying up, and how can you give us a Superman figure with no flight hands?

DURABILITY 3/5

The plastic on the figure is solid however, the ball joints on the ankles are loose and will get looser over time.

OVERALL SCORE 2.8/5

I’d have to say unless you are a big Superman fan or a collection completest then he and just about every figure in this line is an easy pass.

RETAIL COST: $19.99

I picked mine up at my local Target.
