Ares Collect and Connect
Today we will be taking a look at the Diana of Themyscira figure from the DC Comics Multiverse Line. Diana is one of 4 figures from this Wonder Woman Movie line that you need to collect to complete the Ares Collect-and-Connect figure.
The Multiverse line is made by Mattel and is designed to compete with Hasbro's Marvel Legends figures. The lines are said to spread across the whole DC multiverse and offer figures from the Movies, TV and the comics. The lines can be fund at any box retail store like Toys R Us, Target or Walmart.
Packaging:
Before we open this, let's take a look at the packaging.
Diana comes in the standard red and black packaging that we see with all the Multiverse figures. You have the Wonder Woman Movie logo at the top with the DC Comics Multiverse logo right below. The figure is clearly displayed in the middle with her accessories displayed for you to see. On the bottom of the box you have a nice picture of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman from the new movie with the name of the figure and the wave listed next to her.
The left side of the box shows the Multiverse logo and the Wonder Woman logos again.
Turning the box to the back we have a nice view of the Ares Collect-and-Connect figure, along with a listing of the rest of the figure need to finish this wave, #1 - Wonder Woman, #2 - Steve Trevor, #3 - Diana, #4 - Queen Hippolyta
Moving the box around once more to the right side, we have another nice picture of Gal Gadot from as Wonder Woman and a short bio listed below. BEFORE SHE WAS WONDER WOMAN, SHE WAS DIANA, PRINCESS OF THE AMAZONS, TRAINED ON A REMOTE ISLAND AS A WARRIOR.
Outside of the Box:
Let's open the box and take a closer look at the figure.
When you look at this Diana figure you can clearly tell how much better of a head sculpt this figure has from the Batman v Superman one.
Accessories:
Lets see what kind of accessories Diana comes with.
For accessories Diana comes with her Lasso of Truth, her sword - the Sword of Athena, and the lower Torso to the Ares Collect-and-Connect figure. We will be looking more at the in its own review once we have collected all the figures.
Articulation:
How can we pose Diana? lets find out!
Diana's articulation includes the following:
Mushroom Pegged Head - allows you to swivel the head 360 degrees
Ball Jointed Shoulders - gives the arm 360 degree rotation and also the ability to raise and lower the arm
Singles Jointed Elbows - this allows for a 90 degree bend at the elbow
Swivel Wrists - allows you to turn her wrists in a full 360 degree circle.
Waist Swivel - this cut lets you to be able to turn the figure around from the waist.
Hinged Legs - with this it allows the legs to move out to the side along with some front and back motion, however due to the skirt the limitation of this joint is very limited.
Upper Thigh Swivel - the leg can rotate around a full 360 degrees.
Single Jointed Knees - This joint, although limited, allows you to bed the knee to about 90 degrees.
Hinged Ankles - The ankle hinge allows you to bend the foot front and back

Let's see how Diana stacks up next to some other figures.
Diana stands just about 6.5" tall. For some comparison here she is with Batman and the Wonder Woman figures from the Batman v Superman line, and also Angela from Hasbro's Guardians of the Galaxy vol 2 wave.

What are Baby Huey's scores for the figure?
Paint Job 2/5
The paint job for a Mattel figure isn't bad, but its not great also, The shading on the skirt looks very cool and was very nicely done, The paint on the outfit however i feel was a bad choice. The nice shiny gold paint on the sash next to the dull paint of the rest of the outfit really makes it stand out in a bad way. The skin tone of the figure is nice but its a little heavy in some spots on the head.
Figure Sculpt 2.5/5
The figure sculpt for the head alone amazing when you compare it to the head sculpt we got from the Wonder Woman figure from the Batman v Superman line just last year.
Posing / Durability 2/5
What really hurts this figure is the skirt. it is a little hard to get her into some nice poses due to the skirt, it hinders it a lot. The lack of any double jointed knees or elbows are another thing that i feel hurts the figure, with at least a double jointed knee you could get her into some nice poses even with the skirt not helping. Finally on my figure the left ankle is very lose, i know its a QC issue but that alone makes it hard to get her to stand on her own.

Final Thoughts:
Now while I am happy to have a Diana figure that is more in her Princess look, it does kinda suck that Mattel and DC continue to not change how they make the figures. Hasbro heard the complaints and made changes to make the fans happy. Mattel continues to do the same thing over and over again, if they really want to get on par with the Marvel Legends they need to start adding little things like double jointed knees/elbows, ball jointed knees and maybe some ankle rockers. Until then Mattel's Multiverse Line will always be 2nd to Marvel Legends to me any day of the week.
