Toying Around Reviews - Disney's Marvel Toy Box Thor

Disney's Marvel Toy Box

Thor

Today we will be taking a look at Disney's all-new figure line exclusive line, The Toy Box. The Toy Box is a line of figures based on the looks from the now-defunct Infinity video game.

There are three different subcategories, Toy Story, Star Wars and Marvel. We will be looking at Thor from the Marvel Toy Box.

Packaging:

Before we open this up, let's take a look at the packaging.

The new Marvel Toy Box figures come with a standard size blister card. At the top, you have the Disney Store exclusive logo with the Marvel Toy Box Logo running down the left side of the box. Thor is clearly displayed inside the blister card. Behind him, you have a big blue #1 as he is the 1st figure in the Marvel Toy Box. Down the bottom, you have Thor's name and sticker telling you Mjolnir is included.

Turning the box to the side you have a clear side look at Mjolnir and Thor. This is perfect for collectors who wish to keep the figure mint inside the box.

On the back of the box, we have a brief little bio about the Toy Box and the big #1 again to let you know he is the 1st figure in this line. Right below we have pictures of the rest of the figures in this wave as the appeared in the Disney Infinity game, #1 Thor, #2 Hulk, #3 Spider-Man, #4 Iron Man.

Flipping the box around one more time we have some artwork of Thor. This is the artwork of Thor that appeared in the Disney Infinity Game.

Outside of the Box:

Let's open the box and take a closer look at the figure.

Taking Thor outside the box you can see some of the nice detail Disney put into the figure. They used a bright shade of yellow for his hair and a little darker of a yellow for his beard. Thor also has a nice bright red cape, it was done in a softer plastic as to not interfere as much when moving Thor around.  The mated dark grey used on his chest really allows the blue on the lines running down his shirt to stand out a little more.

Accessories:

Let's see what kind of accessories the figure comes with.

Thor comes with the only accessorize he will ever need, Mjolnir!

Articulation:

How can we pose the figure? Let's find out!

Mushroom Pegged Head - Allows you to swivel the head 360-degrees. Although the movement is hindered due to his hair.

Ball Jointed Shoulders - Gives the arm 360-degree rotation and also the ability to raise and lower the arm.

Singles Jointed Swivel Elbows - this allows for a 90-degree bend at the elbow. The swivel in the elbow allows for a complete 360-degree rotation of the lower arm.

Hinged Swivel Wrists - allows you to turn her wrists in a full 360-degree circle, as well bend them up and down.

Waist Swivel - this lets you be able to turn the figure around 360 degrees at the waist.

Hinged Legs - with this it allows the legs to move out to the side along with some front and back motion.

Single Jointed Knees - This joint, although limited, allows you to bend the knees. The bend is less than 90 degrees.

Hinged Ankles - The ankle hinge allows you to bend the foot front and back.

Size Comparison:

How does the size of this figure compare to others?

This Thor stands right around 5 3/4.

First up we have our new Thor standing next to the Marvel Legends All-New All-Different Thor and the Marvel Legends Thor Ragnarok Figure.

Next, we have Thor standing next to the DC MultiverseJustice League Batman.

Last but not least we have Thor standing next to the Thor figure from the Disney Infinity video game.

Rating:

What are Baby Huey's scores for the figure?

Paint Job 3/5

The paint on Thor is very nicely done. I looked through about 10 different Thor figures at my Disney Store and they were all nicely painted. My only complaint and it’s a nitpick is I wish Disney gave us a little bit of paint shading in the hair and on the cape.

Figure Sculpt 4/5

The look of the figure is just about perfect. He looks like he would have been the design/look if Disney had made a 4.0 to the game.

Posing / Durability 1/5

Now I understand why it was done this way. It was to keep the price down but come on, he needs a little bit more articulation! If they wanted to go with the single jointed arms and legs they could have made the cuts a little more so you can get at least 90 degrees in the bends.

Durability wise, most of the figures from what I hear have quality control issues. My Iron Man has a floppy left leg. With my Thor, his hair came off when trying to move his head.

Overall Score 2.66/5

This is Disney's first go at figures like this, so we will have some growing pains. If Disney does want this line to last they will have to fix the same QC issues they have or fans and collectors will not be rushing to pick them up, and this line will die even before it has a chance to do anything.

Retail Cost: $12.95

The only place to pick up the Disney Toy Box Figures is at the Disney Store or online at Disney's Website.
